Veg out and help out!

Back Garden Farm grows, maintains and harvests organic vegetables and fruit at home, in schools or for business.

This month in celebration of their launch, Back Garden Farm is creating a new relaxation area and donating six vegetable beds to The Dame Vera Trust (DVLT) & Ingfield Manor School in Five Oaks, however we also need your help!

The garden build will take place on Wednesday 24th June 09 but help is desperately required. Even if you only have an hour to spare all assistance will be greatly appreciated. With so much to do from building the beds, planting the veg, laying the path and tidying the area there will be something for everyone in the community to get involved with.

The directors of Back Garden Farm Mike Walliss and Richard Hillery visited the DVLT which works closely with Ingfield Manor at the beginning of May to offer their services to the charity. Steven Lane, Executive Manager at the DVLT welcomed the idea and has set aside over half an acre of land for Back Garden Farm to create a place where the children, parents and staff can learn about the benefits of healthy eating whilst relaxing in natural surroundings.

"We are delighted to be working in partnership with Back Garden Farm. The pupils at Ingfield will be involved in all aspects of the project and will be able to incorporate their work into the curriculum and expand their knowledge of healthy eating. The produce will be used in the school dinners and at a later date we will be looking to invite other local schools to visit the project" commented Steven.

Work on the garden has already begun with plant and machine hire company Gambles of Horsham kindly offering their services free of charge to clear and prepare the grounds with their four tonne digger. The completion of the garden will include 6 raised vegetable beds of which two will be custom made to allow access and ease of use for wheelchair users. In addition a path will be laid leading from the school to a new allotment area.

Richard Hillery, Co-Director of Back Garden Farm commented: "As a local company we wanted to launch Back Garden Farm with a very special project and the garden at Ingfield School will be just that. We hope that the vegetable beds will not only help educate the children and their families in a relaxing environment but also allow the school to save money by ordering less food in from a supplier."

CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE…
HELP THEM GROW!

Did you know that one in five children do not eat any fruit at all? Overall, kids eat about half the recommended five portions of fruit and vegetable per day. Well it´s not just Jamie Oliver that wants to make a difference!

At Back Garden Farm our aim is to work closely with children through schools and families.

Growing vegetables or fruit is not only educational, it is a wonderful way to spend time with your family. Having a vegetable or fruit bed at home helps ensure that your children are eating a fresh, healthy diet that they have watched grow from a tiny seed to the food on their plate!
